Hello! Welcome to the last week of the course/semester. :)
For our final discussion, review your Module 1 discussion post and comment on your learning over the last ten weeks. Has your academic writing improved? Do you feel you can cite and reference correctly? How do you feel about quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing? Do you feel you have the organizational structure of an APA Style paper down? How do you feel about plagiarism now? Do you know where to go if you have questions?
I have learned a lot but I will need to continuously refresh. The APA writing style was an awakening for me..I did not realize how important style and format are in various writing endeavors. I feel that I can cite reference sources correctly but there is much more to become proficient at
Thanks Olivia, This has been a good refresher but it seems that I still need reminders on many of the APA points with each new paper that I write. I do have a better comprehension on citing and quoting properly. Goodbye class, I hope everyone enjoys their break time....
I am newly refreshed on writing skills and feel competent now - and I know I'll be returning to style books to remind me of exact forms in the future. Thank you, Greg
Thank you for creating a space where I felt comfortable with my discomfort around learning this writing style. It just does not match my natural writing style. But I think being exposed to the resources that were shared throughout the course will probably be the most valuable takeaway from this course.
I found this course very helpful as a refresher to my writing. Having been an English major as an undergrad, my writing style just became habit. Having to conform my writing to a new style was a challenge, but one that I enjoyed. I had a chance to practice all of the points of this course in writing my final paper for my Intro to Transpersonal Psychology paper and found it helped with resource searches, proper citations and how to list them as references. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience and re-introducing me to my writing.
This has been a tremendous experience. I do not think I will ever conquer APA writing. It will be an ongoing learning experience for me. However, I have learned a lot and will continue learning much more. It has awakened me to be more critical of myself writing papers. The course has been extremely informative. I like the fact I can refer back any time I need to.
Thank you so much for this class. I've created folders in my digital notebook, keeping all this information, as I know I will be using it often during my time at Sofia. It was very helpful to work through this course, and will continue to be as I integrate all this, one paper at a time.
While I feel more confident, I am still in the student and learning position for sure lol. This paper for me was very challenging because as I would write it, I would suddenly think of other things I wanted to write about and tie things together, which meant I had to go and search for those sources. I had and have so many questions still, and I presume it will be like that for some time. For example, in my paper, I wanted to share an empirical study on Holotropic Breathwork and wasn't sure how much of the study I really needed to go into, since I wanted to only focus on their conclusion. And I still forget how to do things and look it up. It is a process.
Looking back at Module 1 and now writing a final paper in my other class, I'm experiencing improvement in my understanding of academic writing over these ten weeks. I'm much more confident with citing and referencing now, and I have a better understanding of quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing.
The APA organizational structure has become more familiar, and my understanding of plagiarism has deepened. I do feel confident using the resources we've explored, including Sofia's virtual writing lab. Thank you for the learning provided by this class, Dr. Jenkins.
I feel more confident with my academic writing since completing this course and reviewing the many resources provided. I have a folder of the resources for quick reference that I can check when writing future papers. After reviewing Module 1 and reflecting on where I started I feel more comfortable with citing and referencing. I am more familiar with paraphrasing and the difference between parenthetical and narrative citations. I feel less worried about plagiarism and will use Sofia's virtual writing lab for support when needed. Thank you Dr. Jenkins!
Thank you.
This APA course gave me clear tools for honest, readable writing that I'll
keep using. It turned citations and references into habits that support
sharing ideas cleanly, and it's already helping in my final paper and
publications like the one I co-authored with Dr. David Leffler on using group
TM for defense against modern threats (Leffler & Shaddock, 2025). Thanks for a
practical class.References
